Sun of Hope Primary School opened its doors on January 11th, 2021. It is our goal to provide the very best education possible. We have ensured that all students have their own copy of the textbook for every subject. That is not the norm in Tanzania, where government school are poorly run. We also connected the school to high-speed internet. Most schools do not have internet even on the secondary level. We wish to use ebooks and other internet resources to enhance their education and knowledge of the world at large. Tuitions of 50 students, were paid in the first year and hopefully that number will increase every year. The total number of students enrolled in Sun of Hope School is 317 with 201 in the primary school and 116 in the pre-primary classrooms.
Sun of Hope Primary school arose from the need to educate the children at Sun of Hope Orphanage. In the early years, when child reached school age, they attended Bernard Bendel School in Morogoro, Tanzania. Bernard Bendel, Morogoro, is also run by the Holy Spirit Sisters, but it is a ten hour commute each way. Thus, the children were boarding there with many other children from the Morogoro area. This put a large stain on the family atmosphere at the orphanage. Plans were soon underway to build a school large enough not only for the children of Sun of Hope, but children from the surrounding area too. The pre-primary school is located on the orphanage grounds. The primary school was built within walking distance. It is closer to the main road which aids in a shorten commute for the local villagers.
Sun of Hope Pre-primary school opened about the same time as the orphanage and was attended by many local children. Parents clamored for a primary school to continue their children's education.
As well as continuing to supply the school with more computers and science equipment and library books, we also strive to build a second school building and dormitories for boys and girls who wish to reside at the school.
