What does sponsoring a child mean?
Sponsoring a child means opening your heart to love and pray for that child. Then to give as you can to provide financial and emotional support so that the child receives all that they need for a full and healthy life.
How much does it cost to sponsor a child?
It’s free. Yes, free. We do not put a price tag on love and prayer. Yes, donations are needed. The care for a child in Sun of Hope Orphanage costs about $3,725.00 per year. Tuition at Sun of Hope Primary School is about $400.00 per year. These costs may seem too great for you to handle alone, but no one is asked to sponsor a child completely. We each do our best to provide for those in need. God will do the rest. All children under our care will receive the necessities that they need to have a happy and safe life.
How long is my support expected?
We set no obligation on how much, or how long you support your child. We hope that you will continue to love and pray for your child all through your life. How often and how much you give financially is your choice.
Will my child know my name and address or even how much we donate?
We respect your privacy. Your personal information is not given to you child. They will be told their sponsors first names. and any email you send will not include your email address when it is forwarded to your child. Your child may know your first name and refer to you as “Rafiki” or friend. The children do know they have benefactors, and they will pray for you every day. Your financial information is not shared with anyone.
As a sponsor, what will I know about the child I am sponsoring?
You will be given the information found in your child’s profile as well as pictures. You will learn more through your correspondence with them. We will also send you updates on your child’s status in our program. Please understand that communication can be difficult, but we will do our best to keep you up-to-date with his/her progress. There are guest accommodations on the orphanage grounds. If you wish to visit, please contact us.
Do I have to write to my sponsored child?
You are not obligated to write to your child. The children respond well to letters of encouragement. We understand that letter writing can feel daunting. We encourage you to send short emails through our email system. Just short notes to say that you are loving them, praying for them and supporting them. Remember, your email address will not be forwarded to your child. We will also be screening emails for safe content. Please be mindful of differences in culture.
Will my child write to me?
Yes, we encourage the children to write at least twice a year to their sponsors. Some of the children are quite young, so they may just color you a picture. Some children will write more often than others, it really depends on the child.
